Conversations With...

Conversation With… is a youth project funded by Bradford Council that is working on 2 sites – Scholemoor Beacon and St Wilfrids Community Hall. The aim of the project is to work with young people and focus on leadership and volunteering and develop a local youth “Voice” that supports the young people to identify their needs and work together to meet these needs. We have got a number of young people attending both groups and are working towards a youth “voice” and we are working towards a residential for the young people. The project is co ordinate by Matt Milnes, but we have a great team of sessional youth workers including Mabs, Matty, Jennifer, Carol and Sarah.

Bike to the Future

Working with the Margaret Carey Foundation we have been running a fantastic bike project, it involves a 4 week bike maintenance course for children from 6 – 15 years. At the end of the course they are able to take away the bike that they have been working on and a helmet, lock and lights. The project was the vision of our volunteer Tony Farrer and he has been the driving force behind the project. We plan to extend the project to include Bikeability courses and guided cycle rides. Matt coordinates this project and works with Tony from Scholemoor and Anthony from the Margaret Carey Foundation based at the Bikery at Buchan Towers.

Blooming Scholemoor

A brand new project funded by Postcode Local Trust that will bring environmental improvements to the whole site and will also benefit local people. We will work together to plan and develop a nature trail on site and improve the frontage of the centre through putting in planters. We will also work with volunteers to make planters to give to local people who are vulnerable at Christmas time and spring bulbs, the project will support intergenerational work and co design alongside local people. We will also get advice from the local community allotment and work with an environmental charity to deliver workshops.
